“ART OF THE LAKOTA”
Early Native American artists used the bits and pieces of plants and animals found in their homeland to decorate their possessions. Often plant dyes were used to add color to porcupine quills and buffalo leather. This early art form is known as Quillwork Embroidery.  The quills were wrapped, folded, plaited and sewn using individual artistic techniques. Early art pieces as well as Art of the Lakota available today used techniques from the Native American Heritage in the past.

RED CLOUD QUILLWORK 2012 designs and art commissions have been displayed at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC, the Journey Museum, Prairie Edge Gallery, Rapid City; Red Cloud Heritage Center, Pine Ridge and Akta Lakota Museum, Chamberlain, South Dakota. The Red Cloud family is 5th generation porcupine quillwork artists from Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota.
